Terry has contributed to the industry in such a way that she has provided a positive impact on many others and helped them each to build a successful business.

Message from Terry:

“I can’t begin to tell you what an honor and privilege it is to have been chosen as the recipient of an award named for the individual who actually coined the term Virtual Assistant. Just to be included among such an impressive list of nominees is an honor in itself; but to actually receive the award is more than I could ever have imagined.

From the moment I opened my business as a secretarial service, and continuing through and beyond my transition into Virtual Assistance, I have been truly blessed to have had the privilege of knowing, working with, and being mentored by, some of the most amazing individuals and industry leaders. I am so thankful to have had the good sense to heed their sage advice and follow their lead. I truly believe I am where I am today because of them. For this I say thank you! Knowing that such a huge part of my own success is a result of so many others giving back to our industry makes it that much more of a privilege and an honor to be able to help other Virtual Assistants succeed in their own businesses by continuing to give back in the same way.”

Thank you so very much for the tremendous honor and privilege of being chosen as the 2007 Thomas Leonard International Virtual Assistant of Distinction – I am truly humbled to be the recipient of this award.

Personal Bio:

The youngest daughter of a Design Engineer in the Aeronautics industry, and then as a military spouse for almost 23 years, Terry was born in Los Angeles, California, and spent the next 34 years of her life traveling all over the United States, Puerto Rico and Asia before settling down in a small rural area just outside of Columbus, Ohio.

While others had much grander visions of being doctors, lawyers and accountants, Terry followed in the footsteps of her mother and sister to pursue the only career she had ever considered … she wanted to be a secretary. Terry graduated from high school and entered the administrative support field as a Senior Secretary for McDonnell Douglas Corporation in Huntington Beach, California. Starting out in a job that took her seven times to pass the typing test requiring only 45 words per minute, Terry spent the next 20 years climbing the corporate ladder until she tired of the corporate rat-race and office politics, and made the decision to branch out on her own to open Fastype, a secretarial and resume service in October 1991, which later became what is now a very successful Virtual Assistance practice.

The mother of Kelly, John and Joshua, and grandmother to her beautiful 12-year-old granddaughter, Rylee; Terry lives in a small, rural village in Central Ohio with the love of her life, best friend and husband of 10 years, Jim, and their faithful Springer Spaniel. With their home situated out in the country on four acres surrounded by woods and fields, Terry and Jim enjoy spending their time being involved with their church, continuing to grow a business that now supports them full-time, gardening, watching the multitude of birds and “critters” on their property, and watching their favorite reality TV shows … Survivor and The Amazing Race!

Business Bio:

Originally a secretarial and resume service serving local clients only in a small rural town in Central Ohio, Fastype opened its doors on October 1, 1991. Over the course of the following years, and because “life” happens, Terry’s business continued down a road of various twists and turns, and even a few stops along the way before finally reaching its destination as a Virtual Assistance practice in July 2004. As it often is with many new VAs just starting out, her target market included anyone and everyone; but Terry soon realized her passion was in working with professional speakers, coaches and authors. Today, more than 15 years after opening its doors, Fastype VA Services, Inc. is now a full-service Virtual Assistance practice specializing in providing administrative and executive support to Professional Speakers and Coaches worldwide. With clients spanning the globe from across the United States to as far away as New Zealand, Antigua and Singapore, Terry’s clients include nationally and internationally known speakers and authors, coaches, info-marketers, consultants and a real estate investor.

Terry is a Master Virtual Assistant, and a graduate of VirtualAssistanceU. She publishes Speak Up and Make Money!  a bi-monthly ezine for professional speakers with inquiring minds, and posts regularly to her blog, Virtually This and That, also geared toward her target marketing of speakers and coaches. She is also an active participant in two of our industry’s Virtual Assistant organizations and several VA networking organizations. It is her goal to continue to promote and assist in the growth of the Virtual Assistant Industry, as well as provide assistance and support to other Virtual Assistants in every stage of their business.

Here are just some of the comments by her peers:

"Terry has all the attributes you could ask for in a virtual assistant: technical competence, excellent communication skills, thoroughness, accuracy, and speed. She is a pleasure to work with and has a "can do" attitude that maximizes the value she produces for me."

"Her professional background and experience shine through in the quality of her work. She has an excellent work ethic and is very conscientious about completing assignments on time and up to my expectations. Terry has a "can do" attitude and the skills to back it up. Although her level of expertise is already superior, she is always striving to increase her knowledge and capabilities. I recommend her to other business professionals without a moment's hesitation."

"Terry is professional, efficient, organized, and trustworthy. That may make it sound like she's a boy scout, not a virtual assistant, but the skill set required to be effective is essentially the same in both roles."

We congratulate and thank Terry for her contributions and dedication to the success and growth of the Virtual Assistant Industry and individual Virtual Assistants around the world.
